Three Signs You Aren’t Taking Care of Yourself

Taking care of your own health is the most important thing you can do.

As a working mom, I completely understand how easy it is to get caught up in the whirlwind of the day-to-day, and to completely forget to take care of yourself. When there are so many other people relying on you, it becomes very easy to focus on them to the detriment of your own wellness, but the problem is that if you aren’t in good shape, you actually won’t be much help to anyone else. Eventually, you will crash and burn, which could also cause issues for all the people you are trying to help. Thus, it is very important to listen to your body and make sure you are focusing on your health, as well as the health of those around you. These three signs generally mean that you aren’t taking care of yourself. If you experience any of them, or all of them, it may be time to stop and consider your choices, and make some time for yourself.

  1. You’re always late. While we all procrastinate, if you find that you are constantly running and never on time, chances are you are taking on too much, and not being realistic about your own time management. This can lead to lots of stress for everyone, so remember to check the things off your list that you can realistically accomplish, and save the rest for later, when you don’t have somewhere to be.
  2. You can’t sleep. Most of the time when someone can’t sleep, it is because they have anxiety from their day (or early anxiety related to the following day). The point is, it is normally stress related, so try going for a walk before bed, writing out a to-do list so that your brain isn’t focused on the future, or make sure to stop working long before you go to bed.
  3. You don’t know what to do with your free time. We all know free time is a hot commodity, but when you do find yourself unattached, if you feel strange about it, and don’t know what to do, you are probably working way too hard. Life is about balance, so find or make time to do the things that truly nurture your soul and inspire you.

I know sometimes it may feel like the world revolves around you, and maybe it does. That is even more reason to take care of yourself, if for nothing else, than for the people who rely on you.
