I’ve said it a million times, and I will say it a million more, stress is really bad for your health. Unfortunately, since stress can be caused by so many different factors, many of them out of our control, it is almost unavoidable for most of us. Since stress will continue to exist regardless of what we do, we have to find ways to fight it. The good new however, is that there are millions of ways to combat stress, so here are a few surprising ones to try, in case you have tried everything else.

Wake up early. Even though it may seem like you get more done at night, there is nothing like waking up early and accomplishing things before you even leave for work. It sets the tone for the rest of your day and gives you an accomplished feeling from the jump.

Declutter all your spaces. Waking up in a clean room, and making breakfast in a clean kitchen helps relieve the stress that is caused when you look around and see clutter everywhere.

Clean your junk drawer. I know this may sound silly, but organizing your life has a distressing effect on your mind. Even small things like cleaning your junk drawer, or spending some time ironing your work clothes will bring a sense of relaxation to your life.

Sing. I don’t care if you are in the shower, or driving on the way to work, don’t be afraid to break out in song and belt out your favorite tunes. Singing releases endorphins, the happiness causing chemicals in your brain, so do it, no matter where you are.

Just breathe. When all else fails, take deep, measured breaths. This won’t always be easy, especially in times of high stress, but taking 5 minutes out of your day to do this will help in spades.
