One of my favorite parts about living a fit lifestyle is being able to share what I have learned with other people. I think that especially as women, it is important that we support each other in our weight-loss, fitness, and personal goals. Even though a little competition is healthy, the only person we are really in competition with, is ourselves.

Giving and/or seeking out support is a great way to keep your own fitness on track, but also to help others reach their own particular milestones. That is why I was so excited to be interviewed for the Gym Rats section of US Lacrosse Magazine, in an article that focuses on empowering women in the weight room, and shares one of my own favorite exercises, the Bulgarian squat.

You can read the article below, see the full magazine here, but here are three general tips to help you with any workout:

Hydration and Recovery:

  1. If your workout is an hour or less, hydrate with water.
  2. If your workout is longer than an hour, add an energy drink with electrolytes, but one that is low in sugar.
  3. After your workout, recover with protein, such as a smoothie or peanut butter on toast with honey.

Also, a special thanks for the contributions of my trainers, Alex Joseph and Desmond Hinds, with Bluestreak Sports Training, for supporting me, training me, and keeping me on my fitness journey!

  1. Great article Doctor. I love the words Strong is the New Pretty. As an avid weight trainer, as well as a health and wellness author, I strongly encourage women to give strength training a try.
