Skincare is as important during winter, as in any other season.

The skin is the largest organ on the body, and as such, it is easy to overlook. Unfortunately, our skin is also very important to our overall health, and neglecting it can lead to a slew of other health issues, the worst of all being cancer.

During the summer we tend to make sure our skin is taken care of with sunscreens and moisturizers, but winter is also equally as important. Cold weather can chap lips, dry you out, and throw surprising sunburns your way when you least expect it (if you are spending a good amount of time outdoors).

For that reason, its equally as important to take care of your skin during the winter, as it is during any other season.

Here are a few ways to keep your skin happy and healthy during the cold winter months:

Wear sunscreen during the day. Even though you may not think so, the sun is just as harmful during cold months as it is during summer.

Exfoliate twice a week with a gentle cleanser. In fact, your normal cleanser with a wash cloth in a circular motion should be good enough.

Cleanse your skin every night before bed with a cleanser that contains no alcohol, even if you have to force yourself to get out of bed to do it! Going to bed in a full face of makeup is terrible for your skin, regardless of the season.

Keep your skin hydrated by avoiding hot water showers, and moisturizing directly after. Warm showers that last about 10 minutes are ideal for your skin health.

Use a humidifier in your bedroom if the air is too dry. During winter months we tend to dry out overnight, so adding a little humidity will help keep your skin feeling soft and nourished.
