Turmeric is great for a lot of things, other than staining your hands!

If you’re anything like me, you are constantly trying to find new ways to spice up your diet, literally and figuratively.

There are a lot of healthy spices out there that can do a lot more than just add some flavor to your favorite dish, and turmeric is fairly high on the list. Not only is it chock-full of antioxidants, but some studies have shown promising evidence that it can even help slow down certain types of cancer, like melanoma, and breast cancer. So while turmeric is something you should add to your diet STAT, it also has a lot of other, surprising uses and benefits. ‘

Whiten your teeth. It may seem totally counter-intuitive since turmeric is well-known to stain almost anything it comes into contact with, but it can be used to whiten your teeth. Fight dandruff. A mixture of olive, jojoba, or coconut oil and turmeric can be used to deter dandruff. Just massage into your scalp and leave it for 15 minutes, then shampoo it away and go about your day.

Bronzer. We all want a bronzy glow, and adding a tiny bit of turmeric to your foundation is one way to achieve that. Just add a little at a time so you don’t end up looking like an extra from Jersey Shore.

Dye your clothes. If you have ever wanted a mustard yellow camisole, turmeric can help you get there. Just add three tablespoons of turmeric to boiling water, let it simmer, and go about your business.

Make homemade soap. If you’re a crafty mom, or into all-natural home remedies, you can add turmeric to soap in order to reap some of the amazing skin benefits, such as a glowing complexion. And who doesn’t want a glowing complexion?
