As an orthopaedic surgeon, I can tell you without a doubt that you need to take care of your feet. Your feet are what hold you up and allow you free range of movement, so you should always take special care of them. Unfortunately, our feet are one body part that we often overlook, especially when we are hitting the gym.

Depending on what kind of exercise you are doing, you may need a different kind of shoe, especially if you haven’t replaced them in over a year. The basic things to look for are comfort, arch support, and a fair amount of cushioning.

If you are an athlete, or interested in investing in your fitness, I think its worth it to buy custom-fit shoes, but I know that not everyone is ready to shell out that kind of money.
