Are You Choosing the Healthiest Red Wine?

Alas, not all wines are created equal.

Wine culture is a thing.

When I say ‘wine culture’ however, I don’t mean taking an online sommelier class and flitting around to vineyards around the world trying out the best wines. To me, wine culture is sitting around in pajamas with your girlfriends polishing off all the bottles in the house.

Drinking wine is a fun leisurely activity for many people around the world. So with that much consumption, it stands to reason that you might want to find the healthiest wine out there.

We have all heard that a glass of red wine in the evenings is actually good for you. To take it a step further though, you should choose to drink Pinot Noir.

Pinot Noir is considered the healthiest red wine because of the grapes. Pinot Noir grapes contain the highest levels of an antioxidant called reservatrol.

Reservatrol is a compound that has been shown to improve heart health by lowering bad cholesterol and blood pressure. It has also been linked to improved brain health. Here is a list of the other red wines, in order of health benefits.

Merlot has the second highest concentration of reservatrol and also contains anti-inflammatory benefits.

Cabernet also contains reservatrol, and helps keep your sugar levels down.

Rosé is still healthier than white wine, but it’s at the bottom of the list. Still, you can drink Rosé all day and feel confident that you’re making a fairly healthy choice.
