Four Ways to Motivate Yourself to Work Out

The struggle for motivation is real.

In these trying times, with gyms across the country temporarily closed, it can be very difficult to muster up the motivation to work out. Add on top of that the excuse that nobody else is really working out, so we shouldn’t either, and you have the perfect storm for a long descent into an unhealthy lifestyle complete with health risks.

It doesn’t have to be this way though. You can find the motivation to work out by trying the following tactics.

Promise yourself a reward. A healthy smoothie, some dark chocolate, or even a full-on pizza (on cheat day, of course) are all reasonable rewards for working out.

Get dressed. Putting on your workout clothes will often spur you into action, and get you into the right mindset for exercise.

Think of the children. I know this sounds dramatic, but I mean it. What kind of example do you want to set for your children? If that’s not enough to motivate you, I don’t know what is.

Phone a Friend. Accountability is very effective for motivation, so getting a friend to work out with you is a great way to keep both of you in line.
